Summary
The majority of field corn grown in the United States has been genetically engineered to express insecticidal toxins from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt). Known as “Bt corn”, this technology was first commercialized in 1996 and provides control or suppression of a range of insect pests. This article provides an overview of Bt corn, the different Bt products available and their efficacy, and management of resistance among target insect pests.
