Abstract
This final project asks that students step into the role of historians and community advocates by preserving the voices of those who experienced the Civil Rights Movement firsthand. Students will identify and interview someone in the community who either participated in the movement or was directly impacted by it. Students will then create a podcast episode based on the interview to explore the power, and necessity, of preserving history. Students will also promote their podcast episode through social media, posters, and community outreach, ensuring these important stories reach a wider audience. Finally, students will reflect on their own role in advocacy by developing a personal action plan for ongoing civic engagement and consider how they can contribute to social change beyond the classroom.
