Abstract

This activity highlights a case study of the early history of, and precursor to, the marriage equality movement. The exemplar focuses on state level activism in Vermont, and the incremental steps activists made—from adoption rights for gay people to, ultimately, legislative support for civil unions. A substantive background summary of the historical context of this reading is provided before students are instructed to read the required chapter.
