Abstract

This activity exposes students to a children’s book from a historical era vastly different from their own which exhibits a different tone and message about America and what it means to be American. Students will then creatively and actively “create a book page” about what it means to be an American now. This activity enables students to compare different historical eras and recognize the importance of language related to America and active citizenship in the modern era.
