Abstract

Each summer, thousands of families entrust camps with one of the biggest daily responsibilities of parenting a child with food allergies: feeding their child safely. For some families, this may be the first time that the child has ever been away from home, with someone else preparing meals, reading labels, and ensuring safety. The webinar this article is based on was built for those families, walking them through how to evaluate a camp, prepare their child, partner with camp staff, and empower them to send their child to camp with confidence. Every question that we advise parents to ask is really a mirror held up to camp operations. This article turns that guidance around: what should your camp have in place so that when families ask these questions, you can answer confidently and proudly? In the same way, when a camper with food allergies gets off the bus to your camp, you can feel prepared, supported, and ready to create a safe and inclusive camp experience.
