Abstract

The objective of this research is to model the heat assisted single point incremental forming (HASPIF) of thermoplastics. The HASPIF process is a variant of the SPIF process, in which an external heat source is used to heat a localized region surrounding the tool, thus improving the formability of thermoplastic blanks. Currently available SPIF simulation models are limited to room temperature polymer SPIF and are not suitable for elevated temperature forming with localized heating. In this work, a coupled thermal-mechanical finite element model capable of simulating SPIF at different temperatures is presented.
