Abstract
From observing cities that have successfully implemented a network of bicycling routes, and analyzing key literature on the benefits and development of bicycling facilities, it is seen that the benefits derived from bicycling are enormous. If planned and designed well, bicycling networks can offer a variety of benefits that increase a community’s quality of life by supplementing the local economy, the environment, health, and safety. To increase cycling in a community it is importance to acknowledge the needs of both the current and potential bicyclists, and to increase the perception of bicycling safety by providing adequate facilities that protect cyclists from motorized vehicles.
