Abstract

Millford is a gem of preservation both architecturally and historically. Architecturally Millford is her- alded as one of the finest examples of Greek Revival style architecture in South Carolina, situated in an isolated area surrounded by green fields and lush forests. Historically Millford has three historically significant periods. The first is the Manning Period (circa. 1838-1902), the second is Clark Family Period (1902-1992) and the last and most recent is connected to Richard Jenrette’s stewardship of Millford (1992-2017). Each period included individuals who left an indelible mark on Millford.

We the Clemson University/College of Charleston Graduate Program in Historic Preservation class of 2021 had the pleasure and privilege to research, document, learn and understand how this breath taking place developed overtime. Our work consisted of online research for both primary and secondary sources, drawings of the exterior based off of laser scans and performed condition assessments for all three floors of the mansion house. We hope that this report is the first step of many more to come in the preservation and restoration of Millford.
