Abstract
This is a syllabus for a graduate-level or upper undergraduate course in preparing secondary social studies educators as part of a MAT program. Three weeks of the course specifically deal with civic engagement, and the remainder of the course contains a broader set of complimentary social science teacher skills. The assignments for the course center civic engagement as a central theme. The syllabus also includes a method for students to use ChatGPT or another AI tool ONCE, to experiment with the role of AI in becoming a secondary educator.
