This course is appropriate for a 300- to 400- level designation. The course will present gender as a social structure, one that is socially embedded in institutions, bodies and interactions. It takes an intersectional perspective that sees gender as inextricably linked to processes by which race, ethnicity, social class, sexuality, ability, age, language, and/or nationality are produced. The emphasis is placed on critical thinking about gendering processes and structures. Therefore, although specific topical areas will be covered, the goal is for students to be able to draw on these concepts and tools to analyze gender in a range of contexts.
