Abstract
The Dell-EMC merger presents a massive technology merger that will likely have an impact on many different markets. This paper uses this merger in order to test three commonly used methods of determining abnormal stock returns and finds that the three methods do not significantly differ. In addition, event study methodology is employed to evaluate share price reactions of competitors of Dell and EMC in response to categorized merger announcements leading up to the acquisition. It is determined that the merger was not disruptive to the market it impacted most, mid-range storage.
