Abstract
Is Southern identity as simple as the location of where a person is born? What exactly is poverty culture, and what does it look like? Both of these ideas are explored in conversation with fiction writer Dorothy Allison and various other academic theoretical writings that evaluate what each of these concepts can look like. In addition, I discuss these ideas alongside my own writing and other forms of media.
