Abstract
Cryptology is concerned with the designing and breaking of secret communication systems. Originally, cryptosystems were used exclusively by governments for military and diplomatic communications. However, during the last decade, the scope of cryptology has broadened to include the private sector as well. With the rapid growth in business applications such as electronic mail, home banking and electronic fund transfers, cryptology is becoming a major concern in the business world.
