Abstract
This thesis documents my effort to create sculpture that combines material, concept, and personal symbology into a cohesive body of work. Steel and drawing are the two main forms my work has taken. My conceptual concerns are based in my interest in altered states of reality and the power of archetypal symbols. Through the combination of these concepts with the pertinence of steel and the welding process, my work has gained the power and clarity that I have been striving toward.
