Abstract

Four cumulative sum (CUSUM) quality control schemes and an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) rule are evaluated empirically by a computer simulation. The average run length (ARL) until an out-of-control signal results is estimated for each scheme at various parameter levels under shifts in mean, shifts in standard deviation, drifts in mean, drifts in standard deviation, and auto-correlation among measurements. Using these ARL's each scheme is judged as to how well it performed under the different conditions.
