Description

This LibGuide from the University of Rhode Island was created as part of the authors' Certification in Intellectual Property Management and Leadership through the Center for Intellectual Property, University of Maryland University College.

It provides an overview of copyright and fair use, with an explanation of transformative fair use. There are a series of 23 scenarios (in the categories of texts, images, video, and sound recordings) that the reader can use to practice a fair use analysis.

For each category, there are tips and resources, for example, "Tips for using images in online education" and "Resources for using video in online education."

The guide also discusses alternatives to fair use and provides additional resources such as links to codes of best practice in fair use, fair use checklists, and further reading.
