Abstract
This discussion-based activity focuses on voter suppression and its relationship to anti-Black racism. Students are assigned two readings that detail how Jim Crow-era laws impacted voting for African Americans intergenerationally and describe the history of Black voter suppression. These texts inform their subsequent engagement with two videos (e.g., one from ABC News and a skit from Saturday Night Live) that facilitate an in-class discussion.
