Abstract
This discussion activity explores the relationship between anti-Black racism, redlining, and housing segregation. Students are assigned three texts that introduce them to anti-Black racism as a theoretical framework, highlight the distinction between anti-Black racism and other forms of oppression, and describe how segregation informs racist voting practices. These texts inform their subsequent engagement with two videos (e.g., one from NPR’s Code Switch and a second from NowThis) that facilitate and guide an in-class discussion.
