Abstract
Great public spaces are where celebrations are held, social and economic exchanges take place, friends run into each other, and cultures mix. When the spaces work well, they serve as a stage for our public lives. Public transit station naturally provides opportunities for Human interaction and society activities. The best transit stations are places to come back to, not just leave from. To successful creating a Transit oriented social place, this paper aim to figure out the principle to achieve the goal by studying the issue related to public space design and what is transit’s role in place making. Three bodies of knowledge are studied in the literature: public space design, transit-oriented development and human oriented design. Then, these areas are researched through case studies: base on the research criteria summery from the literature, learning the strategy they used to manage the issues in the case study. By exam those in the research and design process on my choosing site King Memorial Station in Atlanta, GA. The result are in form of descriptive design guidelines.
