Abstract
This culminating assignment invites students to synthesize their learning from a 14-day study abroad program in Cape Town through a creative project in the form of a zine, poster, or presentation. Grounded in a transnational, decolonial, anti-racist, and feminist framework, students analyze how interconnected systems such as settler colonialism, colonialism, racial capitalism, and neoliberalism operate across South Africa, the United States, and Palestine. The project requires students to integrate experiential learning from site visits with course readings and discussions while also reflecting on their own positionality and ethical responsibilities. By translating complex ideas into accessible visual and narrative formats, students demonstrate their ability to communicate critical insights beyond traditional academic writing. Emphasizing both analysis and creativity, this assignment assesses students’ capacity to make meaningful connections across contexts, highlight resistance and solidarity movements, and articulate a nuanced understanding of global struggles for justice and liberation.
