Abstract

This structured reflection assignment guides students through the analysis of a service-learning experience using the DEAL model of critical reflection. Responding to scaffolded prompts, students write a 4-5-page paper connecting their community service experience to broader course concepts, examining the social context and systems involved, and articulating their learning about civic responsibility and future action steps. Assignment is easily adapted from a paper to a presentation.
